University of California Bodega Marine Lab/Aquarium
One of the best kept secrets in all of West Sonoma County is the University of California’s Bodega Marine Lab. Since 1976 the lab’s volunteer docents have led interpretive tours for all ages. The Tours include numerous marine aquarium displays, some of which shatter the notion that local marine life is drab. Visitors experience a 24-foot-long display, containing many colorful local fishes and invertebrates, and a small kelp forest.
Past that is a harbor aquarium, holding residents of our local estuary, Bodega Harbor. Next to that is a round aquarium that displays giant anemones and other organisms in the nearshore subtidal habitat. A tidepool mesocosm display allows visitors to experience the biodiversity and dynamic energy of the northern California coast. Read more at the UC David BML web site.
